The Tjirrkarli community is located northwest of Warburton. It is named after a native yam. Established in the 1980’s near a bore put down by the Shell Oil Company, Tjirrkarli became an incorporated member of the Ngaanyatjarra Council in 1987.
In the 1970s-1980s, with a reliable water supply, a growing number of traditional owners who had lived most if not all of their lives in the Goldfields region began to slowly return from Cosmo Newberry, Wiluna and Kalgoorlie. At present numbers fluctuate between 20 and 30 people.
Tjirrkarli is 125 kms from Warburton.
