- Secondary School
Iona College is Geelong’s newest Catholic Secondary Coeducational College, opening in 2020. Located cnr of Horseshoe Bend and Boundary Rd, Charlemont.A comprehensive integrated curriculum is being built to ensure that students reach their academic potential. The wellbeing needs of the College community will be prioritised so that students are healthy physically, emotionally and spiritually. The first stage of building involves the $28 million-dollar development of learning, collaborative and specialist spaces to cater specifically for the junior years. This will be enhanced, by the development of a sporting precinct that will consist of an AFL standard oval, pavilion, circuit gymnasium and sports courts.
Our vision incorporates the aspirational statement, ‘Learning to Change the World’ as we shape a robust learning program designed to engage and inspire. 2019, will involve much building, planning and researching best practice so that Iona is fully prepared to welcome the inaugural students at the start of 2020.
Iona College is not being built to replicate the educational options that already exist in the Geelong region; rather it is the chance to put into action the latest advancement in educational thinking that ensures that students are equipped for the demands of the future.
Architectural Concepts & Masterplan
Our first year seven students will be the pioneers of the College who will be given the unique opportunity to shape and lead a new culture that places learning and wellbeing at the core.
Teaching and support staff will be recruited on the basis of their ability to look to the future, care and nurture the students in their care and bring with them a growth mindset towards the provision of a dynamic learning and teaching program.
Progressively, additional specialist facilities will be built to cater for the students as they enter into their senior years and pursue various pathways involving VCE, VCAL, VET and further opportunities yet to be discovered. As the new Catholic Coeducational College in Geelong, we will also ensure that students practice their social and community responsibilities that lie at the heart of our Faith as a College and care for those within the college but also those who are marginalised in our communities.
