The Positive Learning Centre (PLC) is accessed on a referral basis, with the target population being those students who have been excluded, have a history of suspensions or have disengaged from the mainstream school context.
Four programs are on offer catering for students from Prep to Junior Secondary. Each program operates over two consecutive days, with student placements reviewed each term in response to student needs. There is no time limit for attendance, with some students attending for longer than a school year.
The Positive Learning Centre (PLC) aims to provide an alternative program for those students who require intervention beyond the capacity of a mainstream classroom. The overall aim of the PLC is to reintegrate students into mainstream schooling or into more appropriate learning or vocational pathways.
The Toowoomba PLC provides students with the opportunity to develop their academic skills in a safe and supportive environment. Programs are aligned to the Australian Curriculum with a focus on English and Mathematics.
A Social Emotional Learning curriculum is embedded into the PLC programs and explicitly teaches competencies across the four domains of:
Self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and social management.
Programs are well resourced, flexible and delivered by highly skilled teachers. Currently, each program runs 2 days per week and caters for the following groups:
