I was forced to attend Red Bend Catholic College (Red Neck Concentration Camp) from 1984 til 1988. During these long, painful, lonely years as a day student, I was viciously bullied, both physically and psychologically by other students, notably from those from the far-western boarding fraternity. This culture of bullying was virtually rubber stamped by the Marist brothers and some lay teachers, who knew what was going on but turned a blind eye. From 1985 onwards I developed clinical depression and severe anxiety problems, and as a result, my academic performance was abysmal (I had to redo my HSC four years later at TAFE). I still have nightmares at age 45 about being at RBCC and have spent years and thousands of dollars consulting psychiatrists for help have been on anti-depressants for the last 20 years My elder brother’s experience was no better, having the same experiences of bullying and bastardisation, has been practicably unemployable since his time at RBCC and has for the last 30 years been committing a slow suicide through alcoholism. My younger brother, thankfully only had to endure RBCC for two years, suffering the same fate, but the damage done in that short time has been irreparable, developing severe anxiety and depression disorders. DO NOT send your children to this prison of sadism and bullying.
