Telopea Park School, Lycée Franco-Australien de Canberra, is a unique school. It has a long proud history, having taken its first students in 1923. Since 1983 is has been a binational French-Australian school, established as the result of an agreement between the Governments of France and Australia. The agreement sets the parameters within which the school operates.
The school is administered as part of the Australian Capital Territory Government school system. It is accountable to the French and Australian authorities as well as to the ACT Education Directorate.
Telopea Park School is Canberra’s oldest school still in operation having opened in 1923 and boasts numerous distinguished alumni.
In the primary sector students learn in French and in English. The curriculum is a harmonised one satisfying the requirements of the French National Curriculum and the Australian and ACT Curriculum documents. The school is an outstanding example of bilingual education.
Primary students can continue to learn in French and English in the senior years, progressing to the Brevet in Year 9 and the French Baccalauréat in Year 12.
All other students in secondary are part of a normal in-area high school. The secondary school has been an authorised International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) school since 2006. We remain Canberra’s only authorised IB MYP school.
The school achieves high academic results in a safe and caring environment. Individuality is celebrated and is exemplified in the Personal Projects that students present in their final year of study. I am constantly reminded that our students are innovative, creative and demonstrate incredible human ingenuity.
