Yarrabah School is a Government Special Developmental School.
We cater for students with moderate to severe intellectual disability and multiple disabilities.
Enrolment follows DEECD enrolment procedures.
We encourage families to visit the school prior to making a decision to enrol their child.
Enrolment Forms are available via the school office.
Yarrabah school caters for students from 2.8 to 18 years of age. Yarrabah school believes all students can learn and experience success. A comprehensive and integrated curriculum is offered with the flexibility to meet the needs of each student.
The pupil/teacher ratio enables the school to specialise in curricula which facilitates:
- Self Esteem
- Communication
- Behavior management
- Physical development
- Computer technology
- Social skills
- Independent living skills
The Victorian Education Learning standards (VELs) have been modified to best meet our student needs. The major areas of English, Mathematics, The Study of Society & Environment, the Arts, Technology & Science, Health and Physical Education are offered. These areas are supported by physiotherapists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and people from outside agencies.
Staff are motivated, dedicated and constantly involved in developing their own professional knowledge and skills. They are extremely caring towards the students and there is a very close working relationship between staff, students and parents. This promotes stability and harmony within the school and consequently, the students are well behaved and co-operative.
Yarrabah School will continue to strive for independence, emotional and social success for all of its students.
